Boulevardier

It is a chilly, rainy night. The Boulevardier is a drink that dates back to the 1920s, and it is similar to a Negroni (which is a gin cocktail). This drink, however, is made with bourbon with (traditionally) equal amounts of Campari and sweet vermouth. Campari is an Italian spirit that can be a bit bitter, but the sweet vermouth offsets that. I think a little more bourbon is better though, don't you think? The drink is to be stirred, not shaken. However, I like to expedite the chilling process, and shake away.

Ingredients

2 oz bourbon (Maker's Mark)

1 oz Campari

1 oz sweet vermouth

lemon or orange twist for garnish

Preparation

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add bourbon, Campari and vermouth. Shake until you sense some frost on the shaker which should be about 20-30 seconds.

Strain into a a chilled rock glass (with a big ice cube preferably) and garnish.
